MUSEUMS
NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM (THE HARRAH COLLECTION)

Family memberships are $70. The museum features 200 antique, classic, special interest, and one-of-a-kind vehicles; vintage clothing; and art displays.
Through Jan. 5, 2009: 1908 New York to Paris Auto Race: 100th Anniversary: The exhibit tells the story of six teams and their automobiles making the grueling journey. The winning car is the museum’s 1907 Thomas Flyer.
NEVADA MUSEUM OF ART

Through June 22: Subtle Beauty: Modern Japanese Ceramics From the Collection of Joel Barish. The exhibit features works by nine Japanese artists deemed Living National Treasures, including Shoji Hamada, Rosangin Kitaouji, Tatsuzo Shimaoka, and Yasokichi Tokuda III.
Through July 6: Un-Built Reno: Alternative Architectural Landscapes. A selection of architectural projects designed for the greater Truckee Meadows area but never constructed is on display.
Through July 20: Frank Lloyd Wright and the House Beautiful. The exhibit showcases furniture, metalwork, accessories, publications, and original drawings.
May 3-Sept. 7: Edwin Deakin: Painter of the Picturesque. The exhibit features the artist’s paintings and drawings.
May 10-Aug. 17: Earth Work: Mark Ruwedel. The artist’s black-and-white photographs explore the ways humans have made marks on the surface of the earth.

Cost: $7 and $6 for children 18 and younger; $5 per person for groups of 20 or more. The center has the Wilbur D. May Museum, an arboretum and botanical garden, and a seasonal children’s park. The museum presents the life of Wilbur D. May and artifacts from his travels through Europe, Asia, and Africa. The museum’s north wing is home to traveling exhibits, and it features the garden court with waterfalls, koi ponds, and tropical plants.
Through June 15: Snakes, Bugs, and Other Backyard Monsters is a family nature exhibit.
